DIY Furniture Makeover – Sewing and Painting

HI!!  Hey, it's been awhile.  Trust me it's not because I haven't had anything to say or to share, it's just because I have been busy DOING things.  You wouldn't believe all the projects completed and on the go. We have had this bench seat for years and I've threatened to donate it for years.  BUT, I decided I could totally do something funky with it.  It just took years to get just the right inspiration and time to make this DIY project happen.  It's all about perseverance, right? Here is this tropical bench begging for a facelift... Can you believe it hung around for as long as it did?  Like, I'm seriously talking YEARS! Clearly, from the next picture you can see that it … [Read more...]

Painting a wall mural

Here's some painting inspiration for you. Our master bathroom has been begging to be painted, just look... I have had this 'oops paint' in my paint stash {everyone has a paint stash, right?}, so I decided to get in to it and paint over the lovely petal pink with a jewel tone Tiffany Blue. It looked very nice, but I felt it go a lot further, so I decided to paint a mural. I chalked it on the wall first making sure I got the look and dimensions right. Then I outlined it with a mother of pearl paint mixed with a bit of white to make it more opaque. Filled it in with Modern Masters metallic 'Champagne' paint. Went over it again with the Champagne mixed with some white, to make it … [Read more...]

Paint your ceiling – The 5th Wall

Have you ever heard of your ceiling referred to as the '5th Wall'? Me neither until my amazingly talented interior design genius friend, Karen T., assisted me with a project ... from her HOUSE in New Mexico!!  Yeah, she helped me over the phone by looking at pictures and looking at the same paint deck as me.  It was truly amaze balls at how flipping awesome she is!! Okay, well, she convinced me to paint my ceiling, the '5th wall',  periwinkle.  Because, as I've always said, "life is too short for white walls" ... including the ceiling apparently Yup, you are reading this correctly.  I have wanted to paint and makeover my front room for 5 years now but never had because I didn't have a … [Read more...]

Be Bold With Color

I am a bit out of my comfort zone here.  Most of you know me to be very colorful and bright with my sewing projects and products.  When it comes to wall color of my home, color is a challenge for me.  I am about to be very bold with color.  I'm pretty neutral generally when it comes to paint colors in my home. Not this time! This room has been white for over 5 years!  5 YEARS!  Why?  Because I haven't been able to decide what color to paint it.  It's the front room.  The first room you see when you walk into the house.  It has been a catch all room, never truly having an identity or purpose. See this amazing piece artwork?  It's one of the biggest inspirations to the 'change' Here's a … [Read more...]

Baseboard Update #6 – The Living Room

... Remember Them? So, yes, I've been slacking horribly in this department of my life. The Baseboards. It's pretty easy to do.  Not sure why I haven't just done it.  Oh yeah, life got in the way. The Golden Globe Gift Bag project, my mom coming to visit, Christmas, New Years, yadda yadda yadda ... Well, I'm here to announce that I have finished the Living Room {they have been done since BEFORE Christmas}!  I just got around to taking photos of them today ... the crazy huge tree was in the way! Do you know good it feels to cross this room off the list?  VERY GOOD! Now it's on to the Dining Room ... of which, I think I might just end up painting the whole room while I'm at it like … [Read more...]

Buffet Makeover with Spray Paint

Very easy DIY for your ugly buffet! Craigslist is a wonderful wonderful WONDERFUL place! I got this tired ol' wine cabinet/buffet for $15! I love it's detailing on the doors!  I HAD to have it!  The top opens and folds over for double the serving space.  LOVE THAT!!! BUT, it couldn't come in until it was made presentable {for our home}. So, it's been sitting in our garage for quite awhile as I tried to figure out how I wanted it to look after painting it. Well, the day came when I just said 'screw it', I'm just going to SPRAY PAINT it! ********* Here's what I did to it: I spray painted the edges and detail with black spray paint and let it dry. Then I went over it completely … [Read more...]

Baseboard Update #5

The Office is done! Not only the baseboards, but the WHOLE ROOM is painted! Yes, I'm a bit of an overachiever at times, but that's okay!  I figured that if all the furniture is pulled away from the walls, I might as well paint it all at once. The walls have been something I've always to change, but just never got around to it ... I had the paint all ready to go, just had to put it up on the walls.  Opportunity knocked and here you go!  No more faux finished green walls!!  YAY! I had forgotten to take a before shot, so I had to get creative and go in between the wall and furniture {Filthy!!!  apparently the maid has missed this area!!  humph ... moi!} Even though it's not the very same … [Read more...]
