Pond Hockey

If you listen to the NHL players, their fondest memories of growing up playing hockey is playing pond hockey. We have 2 boys who play hockey and LOVE playing on the pond.  The wonderful thing about pond hockey is that there are no rules, no refs, no coaches ... just putting on the skates, grabbing a stick, and throwing a helmet on.  Chasing the puck end to end, side to side, having a few breaks to sip on some hot cocoa, and going back at it. My husband made some pond hockey goal nets and the boys painted them with the colors of their choice. These boys played pond hockey in the most authentic setting ... it was New Years Day, the snow was falling, and they played for over 3 hours … [Read more...]

Boy’s Birthday party idea

We had my youngest's 6th Birthday Party recently.  It's a challenge for me to find games for young boys to play that they won't find boring or 'stupid'.  Totally nailed this one! All you need is a roll of crepe paper {you can get them at any party store, craft store, Target, or Walmart}.  Some chair legs or furniture legs, or spindles of your staircase.  And a test of your own agility.  You can do this in any room of your house and even outside if you have things to wrap it around. Simply tie around something to get yourself started and started making a fun arrangement for the kids to weave, crawl, jump, and step over.  There is no wrong way to make this! NOTE:  DO NOT WRAP AROUND … [Read more...]

A Football Coach’s Speech

The boy had some really nice comments from his coach.  So proud of this athletic boy.  He has certainly delivered by just being himself.  I really wonder where his journey will take him. Like, I really really wonder. He's got this fire, but it's so innocent and not quite discovered within just yet... I am so proud of my boys. Words cannot even describe. … [Read more...]

Boys in Football

As I sit here watching my 5 year old boy practice with his football team.  I wonder to myself, why did I agree to this? At first, I really had a LOT of reservations and did not want my young 5 year old exposed to tackle football at such an early age, flag football, yes ... but tackle?  As a mother AND a nurse {and a Canadian ... but we won’t talk about that right now}, I just was not wanting to put him in it, let alone my 7 year old.  I’ve watched ESPN specials on the adverse effects of young people and injuries in tackle football.  The concussions.  The chronic headaches as they grow.  It scares the hell out of me. I worry about bad hits ... from other kids and from my own.  I worry … [Read more...]

I am so proud of this kid!  I'm so proud of both my boys!!  This one had his first game this week and my other boy had his first on the weekend!  I cannot wait to watch him and his teammates! I love every year that baseball comes around.  He may not be the next Greg Maddox, BUT, he just might be the next T Rex!!! Who knows what the future holds for these boys.  I'm so ready for the ride. I love these little guys so much!!! … [Read more...]
