DIY ‘Frozen’ Inspired Pillowcase

I have given in to the Frozen hoop-la.  My children are boys, but they have watched Frozen {and enjoyed it}. You should see them when I sing the theme song to them.  They run for the hills!! {ahem ... Let it Go, Let it Go ...} Given that I have boys, I have dodged the bullet on all the character meetings at Disney, the Frozen gowns at Halloween, and the dolls, etc etc etc. BUT I am secretly slipping Frozen inspired projects and 'Frozen' Family PJ's right under their sweet little nose without them even blinking an eye. My most recent is a pillow ... they actually LIKE it ... probably because it's blue and grey and shiny. The best part is that it's painted and sewn!  Two of my favorite … [Read more...]

How to Arm Knit

What a flipping awesome concept!  Arm knit your scarf!!  YOU can do it... Especially if I can do it! I went to Simply Maggie's Youtube channel and watched this video on how to arm knit. I got my yarn from Joann and went to town! I suggest you buy 2 skeins of yarn so you have it just in case you need more if you're making a cowl or something like a longer scarf.  I had bought one, yeah 1 skein of yarn, and had to go back.  I was like, 'now what?' as I had the unfinished cowl wrapped around my wrists ... Like how am I going to drive to Joann to get more yarn?  I gently took it off and thought that I'd be able to simply pick it up and start going again where I left off. NOT. I tried … [Read more...]

Top 5 Kids Sewing Books

I have a love for sewing, you may or may not have known this, but it's very true.  My oldest has shown an interest in sewing for a couple of years and we have made a few things together in my sewing studio.  It's kind of a win win for both of us, he gets to sew and I get to spend time with him soaking up our one to one time. I've wondered how I could share kids sewing ideas with you as while my son and I are sewing and creating as I don't take pictures.  It is time for us to bond and be creative, so I immerse myself in the time and not take photos that may annoy him and sever our time.  Hope you understand. There are a handful of books that I have found that might peak your interest. … [Read more...]
