DIY Chalk Paint Furniture Makeover – Before and After

Don't you just love before and after chalk paint projects?  I've been painting everything in my path with chalk paint these days, including this amazing dining room hutch I picked up at Goodwill for next to nothing.  It has sat in our garage (much to my husband's dismay) for months waiting for me to get inspiration to paint it. Well, inspiration finally hit and I went to town on it with red chalk paint! Here is the before: Here is the during: I painted the inside a beautiful blue that accented the red quite nicely. The solder was the traditional bronzey-goldy colour so I wanted to get rid of the glass all together and replace it with something different.  But since I've been working … [Read more...]

Goodwill makeovers – Before and After

If you follow me on instagram or twitter, you may have been watching the AH-MAZING GOODWILL FINDS! Goodwill is seriously my favorite store. We are pretty lucky in our area that we have such outstanding Goodwill stores in our area.  When I travel for work, I will often scout the local Goodwill and often walk out with treasures! I have told my friends that walking into a Goodwill is like going to the CASINO for me. It's this crazy high for me when I walk out with shoes that sell for $800 retail and not spend near that for them.  It's a high for me when I find AMAZING furniture pieces that have now taken over our garage (it's starting to look like a Goodwill!).  Can't say I have nothing … [Read more...]

Bathroom Makeover Ideas

That time you go home and you makeover your mom’s bathroom because you can. We recently made an unexpected trip back home to Canada (my uncle passed away), although a sad reason for travel, I made the most of our time spent there as we don’t get home much these days. I painted my mom’s bathroom about 17 years ago with blue stripes and clouds. It is time for a BATHROOM MAKEOVER! Yes. Yes, I did. And she has loved it ever since. She tells me that she gets compliments on her bathroom all the time (hee hee). Well, I suggested I paint it and update it some. One thing led to another … I re-stained her tired builder’s grade oak cabinets with a beautiful cherry wood stain. I re-caulked her … [Read more...]

Dining Room Chairs … get a makeover

Another DIY furniture makeover. I bought these country style chairs and the dining room table for $30 off of Craigslist {of course!} with a plan.  We didn't have enough furniture to fill our home as we moved from a smaller house to one that is double the size. I thought they were kind of ugly, but there was certainly potential there.  So, I took off the cushion, painted the chair, recovered the cushion, and put it all back together again.  It contrasts nicely with the DIY hutch makeover that I did with a black base with blue as the main color. The chairs {and the table, whenever it gets done} are painted black with a blue base. What do you think? First stage I just made a quick pass … [Read more...]

Don’t replace your ceiling fan – Paint it!

Save your money and paint the darn thing! Paint your ceiling fan! We moved in 5 years ago and I've wanted to change out my ceiling fans for new ones ever since we looked at it.  Every time I go to Lowes or Home Depot, I look at the fans.  I look the next time and the next.... Then I'd go home and think, I should paint mine.  Then I'd think of taking it down, taking it apart and painting it.  Then I'd cringe. Then I'd be at Lowes, I'd look at the ceiling fans again ... and, look at the price and think about taking the old one down and putting the new one up.  Then I think about painting them again. See, it's been a vicious cycle. Try being in my brain ... It's totally ADHD {no … [Read more...]

Mod Podge Paper

I just painted this chest with a Modern Masters Metal Effects kit and felt that it wouldn’t be complete without the inside being made over as well.  I ripped out the old wall paper that had been in there for what seemed to be someone’s lifetime.  It surprisingly had adhered very well for a very long time, but it also came out just fine.  Check it out... Painful surgery right here.  That little patch above on the right ... stayed right there ... shhh ... nobody will know. I tried to use contact paper, let’s just say, it was a FAILED attempt ... a HORRIBLY FAILED ATTEMPT It wouldn't stick to the sides.... So, don't waste your time or your contact paper on this … [Read more...]
