DIY – Update your Front Door with PAINT

This isn't just any paint!!!  It's Modern Masters Front Door paint that refuses to fade!  Front doors often get hit with substantial sunlight and face all the elements that your home exterior endures.  It is important to use high quality paint on these surfaces because of the beatings it goes through. Our front door was in desperate need of a makeover ... I have been contemplating for over a year on what the color of our home should be.  If you follow me on Instagram, you have watched pictures of different house colors I've posted.  We live in an area which requires approval on house colors by the Home Owners Association (HOA).  It is a huge bummer as they have their approved colors to be … [Read more...]

Bathroom Makeover Ideas

That time you go home and you makeover your mom’s bathroom because you can. We recently made an unexpected trip back home to Canada (my uncle passed away), although a sad reason for travel, I made the most of our time spent there as we don’t get home much these days. I painted my mom’s bathroom about 17 years ago with blue stripes and clouds. It is time for a BATHROOM MAKEOVER! Yes. Yes, I did. And she has loved it ever since. She tells me that she gets compliments on her bathroom all the time (hee hee). Well, I suggested I paint it and update it some. One thing led to another … I re-stained her tired builder’s grade oak cabinets with a beautiful cherry wood stain. I re-caulked her … [Read more...]

Painting a Pet Picture

Painting is fun for me when it's very creative, colorful, and a bit abstract.  It's always been a challenge for me to paint faces of anything such as people or animals so I gravitate to an abstract technique. Here is a painting I recently painted for my mother in law for her birthday. It's her pug, she has 2 pugs that she adores. So, it was a no brainer to paint a picture of a subject that she already loves! The great thing about this project is that I was able to bring it to the pool and paint while the boys were swimming!  I used several different colors, so I simply squirted little bit of each color on a plate, covered it with saran wrap; grabbed my brushes and a canvas, and was on … [Read more...]

Alcohol Ink Painting Ideas

Have you heard of Alcohol Ink? It's not what you might think ... No, it's not drinking alcohol while painting (that's called canvas and cocktails, lol). Alcohol ink is a brilliant colorful ink that is best used on non-pourous items such as tiles, dominoes, and Yupo paper. (please see the pictures of those items at the bottom of this post) This is a fun project that you can play with on your own, or with kids.  My boys LOVE playing with the different colours and shapes they can make by tilting the tile or paper certain ways and watching the ink morph and take shape.  They also love to use the stamp with felt and you can make various patterns with using it as well!  You will need a bottle … [Read more...]

DIY Custom Pillows with Paint

Okay, this is a killer awesome DIY project! Paint a Pillow sent me this amazing package with a plain white pillow case, fabric paint, a stencil large enough to cover the pillow case, brushes and rollers, along with an instruction sheet.  I couldn't wait to start as I knew it wouldn't take too long to do. Want to see how I made this amazingly beautiful pillow? It took maybe 10 minutes to complete one side with one color.  I may have taken my time as I wanted even coverage over the whole pillow.  I used the foam roller to apply my fabric paint and it worked like a charm!  The stencil I used is the Zemira stencil. Just continue painting until you have a nice even coat. There is a … [Read more...]

Painting a wall mural

Here's some painting inspiration for you. Our master bathroom has been begging to be painted, just look... I have had this 'oops paint' in my paint stash {everyone has a paint stash, right?}, so I decided to get in to it and paint over the lovely petal pink with a jewel tone Tiffany Blue. It looked very nice, but I felt it go a lot further, so I decided to paint a mural. I chalked it on the wall first making sure I got the look and dimensions right. Then I outlined it with a mother of pearl paint mixed with a bit of white to make it more opaque. Filled it in with Modern Masters metallic 'Champagne' paint. Went over it again with the Champagne mixed with some white, to make it … [Read more...]
