My door has been driving me nuts for ages. All because of a loose screw. I screwed it in as tight as I could but it didn’t make a bit of difference. I took the plate off to see what was the matter and discovered that there was a crack that screwed things up! All you have to do to remedy this problem is grab a paper plate, some wood glue, and toothpicks.
Grab a few toothpicks, as many as you think will fill the hole you’re filling and coat them in the wood glue. Making sure their coated, put them in the hole. Make sure to wipe up any glue drips after inserting them into the hole. This will allow the plate to lay flat up against the door jam.
Fill all the holes as needed and let dry. You know, like go find another DIY project to start …
Once dry, break the excess toothpicks off as flush as you can get them. I used a knife to help this process along.
Put the plate back over to make sure it sits nicely.
I always start with the middle screw.
Then once I’m happy with that and they all line up right, I screw in the rest of the screws.
No, I didn’t forget the top hole, I think I finished the project and got distracted.
This door is now free from rattling and that loose screw annoying feel of it!
And, I did it myself without needing the assistance of a man … although, that’s how I do most of my DIY projects….
