Got a Screw Loose?

Say goodbye to that rattling door. #diyGrab a few toothpicks, as many as you think will fill the hole you’re filling and coat them in the wood glue.  Making sure their coated, put them in the hole.  Make sure to wipe up any glue drips after inserting them into the hole.  This will allow the plate to lay flat up against the door jam.

  1. Nice solution. I’m actually using this trick already for years. It even works without glue.

About your door frame. Did you notice the crack at the right side? Guess first the knot of the lower screw hole broke and the forces pushed against the thin remaining strip of wood of the frame causing it to break. I’d recommend to inject thin fluid glue into the cracks and clamp it until it’s dry.

Hope tips from men are aceptable here as well ;-).

    • Hi Ernst! Yes, it’s one of the oldest tricks that has been passed down for generations I think … BUT I didn’t even think to not use the glue! Brilliant for those that need to fix the door in a pinch, we all have toothpicks!!! That’s an awesome tip to share. Thanks!
