DIY Furniture Makeover – Sewing and Painting

HI!!  Hey, it's been awhile.  Trust me it's not because I haven't had anything to say or to share, it's just because I have been busy DOING things.  You wouldn't believe all the projects completed and on the go. We have had this bench seat for years and I've threatened to donate it for years.  BUT, I decided I could totally do something funky with it.  It just took years to get just the right inspiration and time to make this DIY project happen.  It's all about perseverance, right? Here is this tropical bench begging for a facelift... Can you believe it hung around for as long as it did?  Like, I'm seriously talking YEARS! Clearly, from the next picture you can see that it … [Read more...]

Dining Room Chairs … get a makeover

Another DIY furniture makeover. I bought these country style chairs and the dining room table for $30 off of Craigslist {of course!} with a plan.  We didn't have enough furniture to fill our home as we moved from a smaller house to one that is double the size. I thought they were kind of ugly, but there was certainly potential there.  So, I took off the cushion, painted the chair, recovered the cushion, and put it all back together again.  It contrasts nicely with the DIY hutch makeover that I did with a black base with blue as the main color. The chairs {and the table, whenever it gets done} are painted black with a blue base. What do you think? First stage I just made a quick pass … [Read more...]

Decorate with Spray Paint

I recently took the plunge and redecorated our front room with purple and green walls! I kind of love this room for so many reasons!  Not just the color, but the couch I bought at Goodwill for $15, the art I've made that just goes, the $8 dresser from Goodwill. This lamp pictured below is also a Goodwill find!Wanting to add some extra light, I decided to use a lamp I have had for forever but never used.  The color was a bit off and perhaps a bit too dark. You can see just how easy it is to spray paint something and give it a new life in under ONE MINUTE!!!! This video of me spray painting this lamp shows the before and how quickly it changes. It is just so perfect bringing in … [Read more...]

Mod Podge Paper

I just painted this chest with a Modern Masters Metal Effects kit and felt that it wouldn’t be complete without the inside being made over as well.  I ripped out the old wall paper that had been in there for what seemed to be someone’s lifetime.  It surprisingly had adhered very well for a very long time, but it also came out just fine.  Check it out... Painful surgery right here.  That little patch above on the right ... stayed right there ... shhh ... nobody will know. I tried to use contact paper, let’s just say, it was a FAILED attempt ... a HORRIBLY FAILED ATTEMPT It wouldn't stick to the sides.... So, don't waste your time or your contact paper on this … [Read more...]

How to Add Patina to Anything

Modern Masters Metal Effects Patina finish is surprisingly simple to use!  You can use it on pretty much anything. I have this old chest that we were given years ago.  It stayed the way we got it for years because I hadn’t gotten inspiration on how to paint it.  Fast forward to now when I was offered an opportunity to try out the Modern Masters Metal Effects finish.  There may be quite a few furniture pieces in our house to have tried this paint technique on, but this chest won!  I wanted to try it on the chest mostly because it has a floral embossed type texture to it.  So, I wanted to experiment with the Metal Effects painting technique to see what outcome I’d have.  As per the Modern … [Read more...]

Clean your cabinets and make them look new

I recently wrote about Watco Rejuvenating Oil and how it cleaned up my wood doors like nothing else! Here are my bathroom cabinets, they're in rough shape.  They are worn and old, in need of some tender loving care.  Or Watco... See how the wood drawer looks old and grungy.  You think, "I have to sand and refinish that to make it look new".  No you don't! It's almost too easy to where you think you need to do more. But it's really really simple! Seriously, just rub it in and watch it change in front of your eyes. You can see below where I stopped about 2/3 down.  The cabinet looks renewed up top! There's some really worn areas on the drawers and the cabinets below, you can see the … [Read more...]
