What do you make/sell on Etsy?

Natural Perfumes are my exclusive domain

When did you start doing your craft?
I am a classically trained opera singer. Specifically I am a lyric coloratura. So when I started learning perfumery, in 2010, it made sense to me that I should start off with classical perfume ingredients. The ones that made perfumery what it is today. To me, to jump into this field without a firm grasp on the basics, would be a tragedy. Like trying to paint without learning how colors go together. Botanicals, and Natural ingredients, feel like the foundations of this art form for me. Is this to say that the synthetics have any less validity, no. There are many perfumers who straddle that line of mixed media, as I’ve heard it called. Also I love knowing that I am working with the “soul” of a flower, plant, or tree. It really fits in well with my personal beliefs. It reminds me to be grateful for this little blue ball, that we all share, and live on. (from an interview with perfume blog: EauMG)
etsy shop spotlightWho/what inspires you?

Music, Literature, Art, the Earth around me.  I find inspiration sometimes from a word, or a thought that will pop into my head.  I write these things down in my journal, and then wait for the right time for the perfume to be created.
etsy shop spotlightWhere do you create?

Right now I have a small office, in our home, that I use for creating.  A long term plan is to get my very own studio.

What’s your biggest challenge owning an online store?
There’s no scratch and sniff monitors :D  Which requires me to be as descriptive as I can, to convey smell adequately to those who are looking at my natural perfumes.

etsy shop spotlightHow do you promote your store?
I am on a couple of great teams, I advertise online, and also locally.  I participate in a large amount of social media:  Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Blogging.  Being found online, is mostly a matter of saturation, so if you put out little drops here and there, and keep at it, eventually your cloth gets completely wet ;)

etsy shop spotlightWhat advice would you give to other Etsy store owners?
Never underestimate the power of a good team.  I’ve made so many great people, and been promoted due to team memberships.

    Hi Tara,
I love your new blog. I have also started a new blog http://www.warmheartbears.com/wordpress (now I have 2) to support my new website that is coming in a couple of weeks. The new blog will feature bears, the old blog (http://www.patchworkark.com/wordpress) will feature my dolls and home decor. Good luck with your new site!
