DIY Custom Pillows with Paint

Okay, this is a killer awesome DIY project!

Paint a Pillow sent me this amazing package with a plain white pillow case, fabric paint, a stencil large enough to cover the pillow case, brushes and rollers, along with an instruction sheet.  I couldn’t wait to start as I knew it wouldn’t take too long to do.

When I was done painting, I removed the stencil by lifting the tabs that are provided on the cardboard frame {brilliant idea by the way!}.  I wanted to wash the stencil while the paint was still a bit wet to make it easier on myself.  You can see above the the stencil is a bit blue, but it’s clean and no ink was transferred on to the nice white pillow case.  While I was washing the stencil, the paint dried.  I made sure it was completely dry and flipped it over.  I wanted to paint the other side with a different color!!

Maximize that pillowcase’s function!

When the paint was all dry on both sides, I heat set the paint with my iron.  They give you instructions how to do this, and it was so easy and a no brainer to do.

What I learned:

I used approximately 1/2 the bottle of fabric paint to complete one side of the the pillowcase.

Secure the pillowcase with your hand/fingers if you’re heavy handed to keep it in one place.

Wash the stencil sooner than later to make paint removal easier.
