Blogging Tips – From Taradara Made it

A huge Blogging Tip :: Reaching out

This week, I thought I’d share a few things that I wished I knew when I started blogging a year ago.

When I started blogging, I really didn’t know a darn thing.  Didn’t think I had much to say, didn’t think anybody would listen or care, didn’t think it would last.  But, a year has passed and the path that my blog has gone down is simply not what I originally set out for it {thank goodness!}.  My blog has certainly evolved over the year.  The only way that it has survived is because I have REACHED OUT to other bloggers.

reach outSo, I’d like to focus on REACHING OUT to others.  Yes, a lot of this series’ past guest bloggers have said the same thing.  Why?  Because it’s true!!!  There is no way that this series could survive if I didn’t reach out!  Yes, some have said no {mostly because of their hectic schedules}, but 95% of them have said yes!  When you find your niche or your grove, reach out to those who are along the same lines as you … or reach out to someone who is completely opposite of you if you want a different perspective or view.  It exposes your blog to a whole new reader population.

Reaching out to others, once you know where you’re blog is going and you have found your voice, OFFER to guest post on other’s blogs or to do a blog swap.  Again, all they can say is no, but you carry on, not a big deal.  When they say YES, go for it!!!  It has taken me just about a year to offer to guest post on another’s blog {and I secretly was freaking out!}, but it received a great response from her readers!  {phew!}  It’s taken me a bit to ‘find my voice’, to figure out what I’m passionate writing about, and what I’m good writing about.  Get your confidence, and pitch to others.

Reaching out for advice, help, and tips!  Well, this is essentially what this series is stemmed from.  I reach out to others ALL the time.  Moreover, I have reached out to other bloggers for help in other instances as well.  If I have a question and have googled the heck out of it and still don’t get it, I ASK for help!  Example:  I couldn’t figure out how to make a button for my blog, I mentioned it to a experienced blogger and she just whipped it up like it was second nature!

The blogging community is AH-MAZING!!!  Embrace it!

Oh, and I just stumbled upon Simply Blogging University that I’m going to go check out after I finish this post… they have a LOT of tips!!!

Please feel free to comment on your ‘reaching out‘ experiences, I’d love to hear about them!

  1. Why is this sooo difficult! Yet, such a necessity. I need to start REACHING Out! Thanks for the encouragement!

  2. I also have an art website. I have to check it out too. I could always learn more on the techy side of things. Like your handmade work. Come link up on my crafty site sometime! Theresa
@msartist03 on twitter is how I came across your post.

    • Hi Theresa,
Thank you! I will certainly check out your blog. Thank you so much for stopping by. Hope you’ll come back again.

I could not agree with this more. Well said! Reaching out has changed my life completely in the last year or so.

  4. Thank you for this. I really needed to read something like this. Growing my blog has been a struggle lately in spite of my efforts, but this is encouraging to continue. I’m off to check out the links you shared. Thanks again!

  5. I started my blog in Jan. and didn’t even think about reading other blogs until August! I couldn’t believe the community that I had no idea existed. It has been an amazing experience. I have reached out to some “bigger” bloggers and have had an amazing response. They all remember what it was like to have only a few followers and have answered even my ridiculously silly questions. This is so true. I’m in return being more inspired to keep going.

    Great post!

  6. Thank you for these wonderful tips! I just started my blog: and I’v been having a little bit of difficulty. All these blogging tips are so helpful and inspiring. I’m definitely going to check them all out. Thank you!!

  7. I am LOVING your series:) thanks so much for having it, it’s exactly what I was looking for! I started my blog about 2 years ago, but hated where I was going with it and also hated the fact that nobody wanted to read what I had to say, so I deleted all the posts and decided to start from scratch. well, I got too busy reading other people’s blogs and feeling sorry for myself, and then I moved and wasn’t able to get internet for a long time, now I’m thinking about it again, but I don’t want to end up where I was when I started. I’ve been thinking about all the bloggers I read and wondered how they started, and when I woke up this morning and got onto Pinterest, I followed the rabbit hole to your blog:) ANYHOO…what I wanted to say before I rambled on was that now I’m following the Simply Blogging University and I’m thinking it’s awesome (as long as you understand that Blogger changed their interface and you are forgiving of that)! Thanks for leading me to it:) You’re fantastic!

    • Hi Beth,
I’m so happy that the rabbit hole lead you to my blog! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment! If there’s anything I can help you with, please don’t hesitate to contact me!
