How to update your Home Exterior Porch Lights for Less than $5

Updating the look of your home can be expensive.  But when you don’t have lots of money to do it, you find other ways.  Our porch lights have bothered me since the day we moved in.  I looked at replacing them, however we have 3 lights attached to your house and one stand alone lamp, to replace all 4 would’ve easily cost me over $150.  I love my spray paint, so you know what I did …

I painted the suckers!

Here’s one of the lights … yeah, I’ve lived with these sorry looking porch lights for 3 years.

It cost me less than $5 to make my old weathered porch lights look new again!

They look so much better and so much cleaner and much more modern.

I used a Rustoleum Flat Black spray paint.  I cleaned the metal with a damp cloth to get all the dust and spider webs off.  Then I just went to town on the tops.

Instead of fooling around with the wiring, I simply put up newspaper around the lights making sure there’s enough to protect the brick from over spray.

On the ground, using newpaper again to protect the grass, paint the tops and the screws.

A little tip to protect the screw’s threads:  Punch them through the newspaper and only paint the tops.

{I can be such a genius sometimes that I surprise myself … haha}

I love the look of them now!  Even more, I love that I didn’t spend a ton of money!

{I didn’t paint the metal between the glass because some of the glass panels came out, but most of them did not.  So I simply just left them and didn’t fuss with taping off each individual panel.}

There was nothing wrong with the lights, so why replace them?

Oh, it looks so good, even with the garage door open!

What do you think?
